Louisville Announces Eight Signees in Early Signing Period

Cardinals welcome Charlotte Almond, Alaina Brauer, Maddy Cicha, Ellee Grossesr, Bethany Newcomb, Caleigh Richards-Goos, Mahalia Rebie Shand and Ava Vandroff
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville rowing team is proud to announce the signing of eight student-athletes during the early signing period. The class includes Charlotte Almond, Alaina Brauer, Maddy Cicha, Ellee Grosser, Bethany Newcomb, Caleigh Richards-Goos and Ava Vandroff, who will join the Cardinals in the Fall of 2019, as well as Mahalia Shand, who will join the Cardinals in January 2019.Â

Collectively, this group will bring a boatload of passion, maturity, and happiness to the team," said Louisville head coach Derek Copeland. "We're so excited to see them all come to Louisville and contribute to the program in a way that is uniquely their own, while also perpetuating the existing culture of integrity, toughness, and love."

Team's Thoughts on Charlotte: "I believe she is the perfect addition to our team and already has so many incredible qualities that I can't wait to see grow during her time here. I'm so excited to get to know her more and for rest of the team to discover how awesome she is. Not only is she a talented athlete with huge potential, her attitude and maturity are beyond her years. I can definitely see her developing into a leader on the team and playing a part in maintaining and developing our team culture. I can't express how excited I am for her to be a member of our family."

Team's Thoughts on Maddy:Â "On Maddy's visit, she made me wish I was not graduating this year so I could be in a boat with her. She was really excited about our team environment and how close our team was with one another. Her positive mindset is going to make her a great addition to the team because I know she's going to really embrace the gritty atmosphere we strive to have."

Intended Major: Multicellular/Genetic Biology - Pre-Dentistry
Team's Thoughts on Ellee: "I can't wait for Ellee to become a part of the family. She fit into our culture right away and will be a great addition to our coxie squad. We can't wait to see how much she grows and learns here. Welcome to Louisville!"

Team's Thoughts on Bethany:Â "Bethany is always up for a challenge and gets the work done. She is one of the best examples of hard work paying off. You could tell her personality matched a supporting and caring teammate. She also spoke about rowing with a lot of passion and has a ton of experience that I know will show in her time here at Louisville."

Team's Thoughts on Caleigh:Â "I could tell Caleigh was eager to jump right in and become a part of what's been built here at Louisville. It's a very special place. We're excited to welcome Caleigh to the family and watch her and the entire class of 2023 become unstoppable. Caleigh is an extremely hard-working, driven athlete. I can't wait to see her accomplish amazing things here at Louisville."

Team's Thoughts on Ava: "Ava was impressive right off the start of her visit. Her experience in the boat as a rower and a coxswain gives her a lot of dynamic experiences that I'm excited to see her use on the team in the future. She is eager to learn and is going to fit right in to our fun and energetic team. She is going to complement our coxswain group very well by bringing in new experiences and insights that will add to our development as a whole. She is so ready to for the challenges to come and I know she be very successful here!"
