Cards improve to 10-3 with sixth straight win
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville's men's tennis team defeated Tennessee Tech 6-1 in their second match of the day at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center Saturday evening. The Cardinals (10-3) extend their win streak to six games.
Â
"Tennessee Tech is a team I respect a lot," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "Eleven months ago it was 3-3 George Hedley in a third set helped us climb out of that one 4-3. That team is almost the exact same team back from last year. It really showed how much this team has gotten better, how much they've grown to beat that team 6-1. I'm really proud of them for the challenge, and I think the trajectory is going upward."
Â
On doubles court one, Louisville's 37th-ranked duo of freshman Parker Wynn and senior Sean Donohue took the first doubles match 6-1, over Guilermo Nicolas and Marcos to improve their doubles record to 15-1. Sophomores George Hedley and Brandon Lancaster secured the doubles point with a 7-5 victory over Marc Mila and Jorge Alfonzo on court three. Sophomore Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and junior Ciro Lampasas were tied 6-6 with Eduardo Mena and Albero Estban when their match was halted.Â
Â
Wynn took the first singles point with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Marcos Bernardes. Hedley pushed the Cards lead to 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Nicolas on court 4. Â Freshman Clement Filho clinched the match defeating Jorge Alfonzo 6-4, 6-0 at No. 6. On court 5, Lancaster won 6-0, 7-6 (7-1) to give the Cardinals to make the score 5-0. Â
Â
Tennessee Tech got on the scoreboard on court one, where No. 109 Mena defeated Morin-Kougoucheff 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6). Â
Â
Junior Nicolas Rouanet defeated Alberto Esteban 6-7 (7-5), 6-1, 1-0 (10-4) for the 6-1 final
Â
The Cardinals (10-3) will be back in action on Saturday, March 11 as they bring Notre Dame to continue ACC play.
