Cards win the first match of Tuesday's doubleheader
LOUISVILLE, Ky. –  LOUISVILLE, Ky. –  The University of Louisville men's tennis team defeated Austin Peay 7-0 Tuesday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cardinals (5-3) will take on Illinois State at 6 p.m. in the second half of Tuesday's doubleheader.
Â
"It was a tough doubles point," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "Austin Peay came here to compete and we went back and forth on all three courts. We really took our singles game to a different level. I feel like our guys really won a lot of the big points and didn't drop any sets."
Â
The Cardinals gained an early edge by winning a highly competitive doubles point, Louisville senior Sean Donohue and sophomore Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff beat Almantas Ozelis and Aleh Drobysh 6-4 at the No. 1 spot. On court two, sophomore George Hedley and junior Ciro Lampasas built a 5-2 lead, but Austin Peay's Aaron Jumonville and Manuel Montenegro battled back for a 7-5 win to even the doubles tally. The first point of the match came down to the three-spot where freshmen Fredrik Moe and Clement Filho traded games with Alex Kartsonis and Chad Woodham and trailed 5-3 before the Louisville duo prevailed 7-6 (7-3) to give their team the first point of the match.
Â
The Cards swept all six single matches in straight sets to move to 5-3 on the season. Lancaster quickly gave the Cards a 2-0 advantage when he beat Drobysh 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 5 spot. Â Hedley added to the lead with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Kartsonis at No. 4. The match was decided on court two where freshman Parker Wynn defeated Ozelis 6-0, 6-4.
