Cards complete Tuesday's doubleheader with second straight shutout
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 win over Illinois State Tuesday evening at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cards completed the Tuesday doubleheader with a pair of shutout wins after opening the day with a 7-0 victory over Austin Peay.
The Cardinals grabbed the doubles point to start the match, gaining an early edge when Illinois State forfeited on court three. Sophomores George Hedley and Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff secured the point with a 6-1 decision against Peter Foersom and Egehan Sertkaya at the two-spot. Senior Sean Donohue and freshman Parker Wynn beat Andreas Boers and Dylan Steffens 6-2 at No. 1 to improve to 11-1 on the season.
In singles action, an Illinois State forfeit on court six put the Cards up 2-0. Wynn pushed his overall singles record to 23-8 with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Sertkaya at No. 3. Freshman Clement Filho clinched the win on court five where he beat Foersom 6-0, 6-2 to give Louisville a 4-0 advantage. Morin-Kougoucheff added to the lead by beating Steffens 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 1 position. Courts two and four wrapped up in quick succession with junior Nicolas Rouanet defeating Boers 6-2, 6-2 and Lancaster picking up a 6-3, 6-2 win over Chomali.
Louisville (5-3) will return to action on Sunday when the Cards hit the road to face Boston College in an ACC matchup.
