
No. 3 Women's Basketball Opens ACC Play at Georgia Tech on Thursday

The Cardinals and Yellow Jackets will tip off at 7 p.m. ET.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - No. 3 Women's Basketball (14-0) opens Atlantic Coast Conference play at Georgia Tech on Thursday night at 7 p.m. ET.
With the win at Air Force last Wednesday, the Cardinals extended their second-best start in program history to 14-0. Their 14 wins lead the country and they are one of seven undefeated teams.
It marks their first 14-game winning streak since they won 15 straight from Dec. 13, 2015 to Feb. 4, 2016. Their best ever start to the season is a 15-0 start in 06-07. They finished the year at 27-8, losing in second round of NCAA Tourney to Arizona State, 67-58. The best winning streak in program history is 16 games from Dec. 3, 2013 to Feb. 4, 2014.
UofL opens ACC play at Georgia Tech, marking the first time since the 2012-13 season that they have opened conference play on the road. That year, they opened at DePaul on Jan. 5, 2013, falling to the Blue Demons, 86-80. They have won their last four conference openers, including going 3-0 in ACC openers, and have not lost in their opener since that defeat at DePaul.
Overall, head coach Jeff Walz is 8-2 in conference openers, going 3-2 on road and 5-0 at home. His teams have won eight of their last nine league openers.
The Cardinals are shooting 78.8 percent from stripe, which ranks ninth in the country and first in the ACC. They have shot 80 percent or better in eight of their last 12 games, including shooting 22-of-25 (.880) from the free throw line at Air Force. Last year, the Cards shot 69.2 percent from line.
Junior Asia Durr is shooting .860 (43-50) from the stripe, which ranks third in the ACC and freshman Dana Evans is shooting .829 (34-41) from the line, which ranks eighth in the ACC. Sophomore Sydney Zambrotta (15-15) and sophomore Kylee Shook (7-7) are perfect from the charity stripe.
ABOUT THE YELLOW JACKETS
Georgia Tech (11-2) opened the season with wins in their first six games and are 5-2 in their last seven, with losses vs. Baylor (L, 80-57) and at Georgia (L, 60-53). Their lone win over a power five conference school is a 68-55 win vs. Purdue.
Prior to the break, they won their last two games against Charleston Southern (W, 78-51) and Southern Miss (W, 63-44).
Sophomore Francesca Pan leads the Jackets in scoring with 13.2 points per game, while knocking down a team-high 30 3-pt field goals and shooting 33 percent (30-90) from deep. Senior Zaire O'Neil and sophomore Chanin Scott average 9.6 points, while senior Elo Edeferioka averages 8.5 points and a team-high 6.2 rebounds.
Georgia Tech allows just 52.2 points per game, which ranks seventh in the nation and second in the ACC. Their 144 total steals rank 11th in the country and their 11.1 steals per game lead the ACC.
