Brackemyre Departing Women’s Basketball

Sydney Brackemyre had two surgeries on her left knee since coming to Louisville in 2014.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Talent was never a question for Louisville's Sydney Brackemyre. Knee injuries, though, kept the sophomore from showcasing her skills on the court.
"Syd has been a valuable asset to this program," head coach Jeff Walz said. "Unfortunately, her knee injuries have not allowed her to compete at this level. I really admire the positive attitude she brought to the gym each day, and I am hopeful she can find a program, where she can truly flourish."
Brackemyre missed the entire 2014-15 campaign due to surgery and then played in two games during the 2015-16 season before re-injuring her left knee.
Because of the injuries, Brackemyre announced on Thursday she will further her education and continue her women's basketball career at another institution.
A 6-foot-1 forward from Wilmington, Ohio, Brackemyre underwent left-knee surgery three times since 2013, including twice since joining the Cardinals in 2014. She had her second anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction in 2014 – the first came in high school in 2013 – and then had a meniscus resection in 2015.
Academically, Brackemyre has excelled. She earned a spot on the Dean's List in consecutive-fall semesters (2014 and 2015) and secured Athletic Director's Honor Roll status on three occasions.
