Brandon Lancaster reaches Sunday's semifinal match
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Freshman Brandon Lancaster advanced to Sunday's Flight 'A' singles semifinals and teamed with fellow freshman Brian Tsao for a doubles win as the University of Louisville men's tennis team completed day two of the Purdue Fall Invitational Saturday.
"Another quality win for Brandon Lancaster today," said UofL assistant coach Jakob Gustafsson. "He is showing a lot of toughness in his matches. Overall we still need to do better in the close games and sets. The level of our tennis is pretty good, but the added pressure on big points is something we need to deal with better."
The day opened with a round of doubles. In the 'A' consolation bracket, Lancaster and Tsao paired for a 9-8(8) win over Dayton's Carsten Fisher and Zach Berry. Freshmen George Hedley and Christian Haushammer fell 8-4 to Ball State's Conner Anderson and Collin Rigney.
In the Flight 'A' singles main draw, Lancaster picked up his second straight victory with a 7-6(4), 6-3 decision against Butler's Mikheil Khmiadasvili. Lancaster will face Southern Illinois Michal Kianicka in Sundays' semifinal match.
Haushammer fell 6-2, 7-5 to Purdue's Ricky Medinilla while Hedley lost to Purdue's Mateus Silva 6-2, 7-5.
Tsao registered a 6-2, 7-5 win over Eastern Kentucky's Ramon van Flymen.
