Cards pick up 11 wins Thursday
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Louisville men's tennis team picked up 11 wins on the first day of the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championship Thursday.
Â
"With a tournament as good as this, it is nice to have three doubles teams in the second round," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "Also we have three players in the third round of singles. This is the first time playing the regionals for most of these guys so this is a good start."
Â
The Cardinals picked up two doubles wins. Junior Sean Donohue and sophomore Courtney Lock teamed to beat Indiana's Raheel Manji and Afonso Salgado 8-2 while sophomore Santiago Salazar and freshman Michael Quang defeated Northern Kentucky's Court Clark and Jody Maginely 8-3.
Â
Freshmen Brandon Lancaster and Brian Tsao fell 8-3 to Kentucky's Beck Pennington and William Bushamuka. Seniors Jeffrey Brown and Alex Gornet received a first-round bye.
Â
In singles action, Louisville posted eight wins with Lancaster, Gornet, and Brown advancing to Friday's third round action.
