October 02, 2014 | Men's Soccer
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville men's soccer program has announced details for the "Cards Kick Hunger" food drive to benefit the Lord's Kitchen and help feed the hungry in the Louisville community.
The Cardinals will be collecting food cans each of their four Tuesday home matches in the month of October at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium. Fans who donate a can at any of those four matches (Indiana on Oct. 7, Florida Gulf Coast on Oct. 14, Evansville on Oct. 21 or SIU Edwardsville on Oct. 28) will receive a ticket for free admission to Louisville's regular season home finale against SIU Edwardsville on Oct. 28.
"I am very excited about this partnership and relationship for The Lord's Kitchen and for what the University of Louisville men's soccer program can offer within the community in order to impact the hurting across our city," said Rex Chesser, Executive Director of The Lord's Kitchen. "We look forward to accommodating this fantastic opportunity doing everything possible to make it a tremendous success."
Suggested items to be donated for the food drive included green beans, corn, mixed fruit, turkey or chicken broth, stuffing, instant potatoes and macaroni and cheese. All canned goods and non-perishable and/or monetary donations are greatly appreciated.
Fans may also donate at participating organizations or at the Lynn Stadium training center during normal business hours. The goal set for Louisville men's soccer fans is to collect 5,300 cans during the month of October, which would match the listed capacity of Lynn Stadium.
Businesses and organizations are encouraged to participate in the "Cards Kick Hunger" food drive by completing this online form. After submitting the form, more information and details will be provided by a representative from the Louisville men's soccer program.
The fifth-ranked Cardinals will hit the road for their next match as they travel to Raleigh, N.C., to take on NC State on Friday at 7 p.m., ET. The game will be aired on ESPN3. Louisville will then return home to Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium for a border battle matchup with No. 16 Indiana next Tuesday (Oct. 7) at 7:30 p.m., ET.

About The Lord's Kitchen
The Lord's Kitchen was founded on Christmas Day 1988. Located at 2732 South 5th Street in Louisville, Kentucky, in the shadows of historic Churchill Downs, The Lord's Kitchen has faithfully fed the needy, 365 days a year, 7 days a week, for 25 years.
The Lord's Kitchen's most recent addition to its outreach, which opened in 2010, is the feeding site at the City Of Hope, 1811 Standard Avenue, one of Louisville's most economically distressed neighborhoods. It has quickly gained community support and energized the neighborhood and serves as the Lord's Kitchen's outreach facility.
In addition to the two feeding sites, The Lord's Kitchen blesses the local community each year with a LG&E Back Pack Give Away, Food Box Give Away, Bread House, Food Pantry, Emergency Food, Dare To Care Distribution Center, and Buy A Coat, Warm A Heart Give Away. This year we are starting ROC At The River, where they give free items and a hot meal to the youth and homeless of our city.
They are approaching 7 million meals served since 1988 and have projected approximately 400,000 meals will be served in 2014 and countless lives changed. Consider supporting them as they endeavor to impact our city.
