Each of Louisville's student-athletes will be competing on separate days, beginning with Mattias Wolter on Wednesday. After winning the NCAA Division I East Preliminary 3,000m steeplechase title, the junior is scheduled to run in section two of the event at 9:45 p.m. ET. Wolter, who finished the race with a personal best and winning time of 8:41.29, also won the BIG EAST title in the discipline this year. He is making his first career appearance at the meet.
Should Wolter place in the top 12 on Wednesday, he would run again on Friday at 8:40 p.m. ET.
Sam Bombaugh, who secured the final spot in the hammer throw at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds, will participate on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. The Falmouth, Mass., native, competing at his first NCAA Championships, placed 12th in the event two weeks ago, and won the BIG EAST title in the hammer throw earlier this year, his third conference title of the 2012-13 campaign.
On the final day of competition, Louisville sends another thrower into competition, as Amashi Kendall will participate in the shot put. The senior, making her first NCAA Outdoor Championships appearance, qualified for the NCAA Preliminary Rounds in both the shot put and discus events, where she placed third and 18th, respectively. Kendall enters the weekend as the No. 10 seed in the shot put with a career-best mark of 16.59m/54-5.25. An indoor All-American, she won the discus title and placed second in the shot put and hammer throw events at the conference championships.
