No. 19 Cards Take Second at BIG EAST Rowing Championship

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - Highlighted by a victory in the second varsity four event and runner-up finishes in two scoring events, the No. 19 Louisville rowing team finished second overall at the 2013 BIG EAST Championship on Sunday at Mercer Lake.
The Cardinals finished with 129 points to edge third-place Syracuse at 128 while No. 11 Notre Dame won the team title for the 10th straight season with 151 points. Rutgers was fourth with 94 points followed by Georgetown in fifth with 85, Connecticut in sixth with 82 and Villanova in seventh with 56.
Louisville had four rowers earn All-BIG EAST honors as junior Morgan Dunham and sophomore Darya Marchanka received First Team All-BIG EAST accolades and senior Erin Bennett and junior Kara Savegnago were selected Second Team All-BIG EAST. Bennett became a four-time All-BIG EAST selection while Dunham earned her third All-BIG EAST honor.
Earning a win in the second varsity four final, the Louisville crew of coxswain Katie McGrath, Amanda Zalno, Cynthia Doyle, Lizzie DeVries and Paula Gollnick finished with a time of 7:55.965. Louisville also claimed second-place finishes in the varsity four and second varsity eight events with times of 7:55.32 and 7:09.76 respectively.
