LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville track and field teams will play host to the fourth annual Border Battle on Saturday, April 13, at Cardinal Park Track and Soccer Stadium.
Events at the throws field are set to begin at 10:30 a.m. Field events inside the track are scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m., with running events commencing at 1 p.m. Live results from the meet can be accessed through www.GoCards.com.
The dual-scored meet showcases team 'Hoosier Land' - Notre Dame and Indiana - against team `Commonwealth' - Kentucky and Louisville. In the first meeting in 2010, the Commonwealth's men's and women's teams won. Hoosier Land has registered wins on both sides the last two years. Admission is free.
Through four meets this season, the Cardinals have 11 marks that rank in the top 50 nationally.
In one of the first events of the day, Sam Bombaugh leads a trio of Cardinals in the hammer throw. He broke the school record earlier this year in the event and that mark of 62.94m/206-6 ranks 17th nationally. Brad Vivace, also competing in the hammer throw, is scheduled to throw in the shot put, a discipline he ranks 30th in nationally.
On the women's side, Louisville will have a participant in all four throwing events. Amashi Kendall, who is competing in all but the javelin, ranks 15th in the nation in the shot put with a season-best 16.45m/53-11.75.
The next group of events to start is the jumps, as the women's pole vault opens at 11:30 a.m. Louisville's highest-ranked participants from the jumps area are Michelle Kinsella and Chrisjaan Smith, both in the high jump. Kinsella, who earned indoor All-America honors in the event and ranks fourth for the outdoor season, will jump at 2:30 p.m. Smith, who has the 49th-best mark on the men's side, is scheduled to open at 4 p.m.
Standout Calvin Arsenault will be running in one of the first individual sprinting events of the day, racing in the 110m hurdles at 3:45 p.m. He also is scheduled to compete in the 400m hurdles as well as the 4x100m relay. Arsenault broke the school's 400m hurdles record a week ago and also owns the school's 110m hurdles record. He ranks 25th in the 400m hurdles (51.90) and 31st in the 110m hurdles (14.05).
Mattias Wolter, who will take part in the 800m and 1,500m, ranks third in the country in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 8:43.73.
Later in the day, Kelsey Cramsey will be one of three Louisville runners to compete in the 800m. Cramsey currently is 12th in the BIG EAST in the event.
The Cardinals conclude the day with the women's steeplechase and then the men's and women's 4x400m relays.
Last year, the Cardinals accounted for 12 of the Commonwealth's victories, with nine coming from the field events.
