LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville men's soccer program is teaming with fans to help in the fight against hunger with the Halloween for Hunger campaign.
Halloween for Hunger is a partnership of University of Louisville student-athletes along with the MetoWe organization. MetoWe is an organization that strives to change lives not by dollars earned, but by the number of lives changed, along with a positive social and environmental impact. In America, approximately 1 in 5 children live in households that struggle to put food on the table with the state of Kentucky ranking fifth in the nation in poverty at 12.7 percent.
"Our dream is to inspire service learning among young people throughout Kentucky and to empower youth to make a positive change in our community and the world," said We Day ambassadors Kris and Wendy Sirchio. "Currently we have 40 schools throughout Kentucky participating and our dream is to increase our connection to more students and schools so that one day we can bring WE DAY to Louisville and the KFC Yum! Center."
During the month of October, U of L athletes will be collecting canned food items at men's soccer home matches. For every can donated, fans will receive a voucher for a free ticket to the Cardinals' home game against Saint Louis on Thursday, Oct. 31st at 7 p.m., ET at Cardinal Park. Cans can be exchanged at the marketing table located on the north end of Cardinal Park with all items being donated to The Lord's Kitchen.
"We are so excited to participate in Halloween for Hunger to generate food for those in our community that are in need, especially during the upcoming Holidays," said Louisville head coach Ken Lolla.
Be sure you join the Cardinals with your free voucher or canned food item on Oct. 31 for a night of Halloween fun! Dress up in your favorite costume for a halftime Halloween parade, pregame trick-or-treating around Cardinal Park, face painting, poster making & other Halloween fun hosted by University of Louisville student-athletes. The fun begins at 6 p.m., when the gates open at Cardinal Park.
