
Men's Soccer Hands Army a 3-0 Shutout

Louisville, Ky. - The No. 7/18 Louisville men's soccer team defeated Army 3-0 on Saturday night in Cardinal Park. The Cards scored three goals late in the second half to seal the win. The Cardinals improve to 2-2-0 on the season while Army falls to 2-3-0.
The Cardinals were unable to get into a rhythm in the first half. The Cardinals finished with just one shot on goal and five shots in the half. Army also had one shot on goal in the first half but Joachim Ball was able to get a hand on the ball and send it over the goal. The Knights finished with two shot in the first period.
The Cardinals kept possession for most of the second had a lot of opportunities but were unable to connect early. Senior Buck Tufty got on the board first for the Cardinals in the 76th minute. Tufty collected the ball off a cross from Alex Obbey and found the back of the net.
The Cardinals continued to press forward and were rewarded with a second goal in the 87th minute. Senior Greg Cochrane took a thru ball from Will Vitalis and found the back of the net to put the Cards up 2-0. Three minutes later sophomore Dylan Mares came streaking down the middle of the field and hit the right post and the ball bounced in for the score and a 3-0 lead.
Louisville finished the game with a 13-3 shot advantage and a 6-4 corner kick advantage. Ball finished with his first shutout of the season and was only challenged once in the first half. Winston Boldt finished with five saves for Army.
The Cardinals will host Wake Forest on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 7:00 p.m. in Cardinal Park.
