OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - The Louisville rowing team concluded the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational on Sunday with varsity eight and second varsity eight wins over Alabama and Kansas.
The Cardinals' varsity eight crew covered the 2,000-meter course in a time of 6:26.20 to finish more than 18 seconds clear of second-place Alabama (6:44.63) and third-place Kansas (6:45.65). The Crimson Tide was second at 6:44.58, while the Jayhawks were third in a time of 6:44.71.
"We put together a solid weekend of racing," said Louisville head coach Laura Aubrey. "I think we showed ourselves that we're starting the season with good, consistent speed and have a strong foundation from which we can build on. The team also handled the week of training very well and has come away from the week significantly faster than when we started. I know with more time and with the same consistent effort and focus that we will continue to find speed and build on our successes."
