LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's cross country team has been recognized for its academic achievement, earning U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic status, the New Orleans-based organization announced Wednesday.
To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, a team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have started at least five athletes at its respective NCAA regional championship.
Similar to the women's side, the BIG EAST had the most men's squads earn the distinction, as Louisville was one of 11 teams to be named an all-academic team.
Louisville's men had a strong season, registering four top-five team finishes. The squad placed third at the BIG EAST Championships and then took sixth at a highly competitive NCAA Southeast Regional. Sophomore Tyler Byrne, one of the team's top returnees for the 2012 campaign, earned two victories and had a runner-up performance at the Navy Invitational.
