Cardinal Park - Louisville, Ky.
Louisville Head Coach Ken Lolla
(Opening statement) "From the first whistle to the last whistle, I thought it was one of our better, most consistent performances on the year, so evidently the two weeks we had between games served us well. Today was good and we're glad to be at home again next week."
(On the impact of the early goal by Greg Cochrane) "It was huge to get a goal that early in the game and jump on top of them early and kind of shake them a little bit. It was good for our confidence as well. Greg struck it well. He's been striking the ball as well as he has all year, so we weren't too surprised he got the first one tonight."
(On how far Louisville could go in the NCAA Championship) "When we're moving the ball like we did today and we pressure the ball that well, I know we're a very good team. How good? I still think there's a lot of growth in us. I still think there's more out there. We're happy we have more games to continue that journey and that process."
(On hosting Northwestern next Sunday night in an NCAA third round match) "It's good to be at home. It's always good to be at home. I would expect the crowds to continue to grow for us as they have in past NCAA Tournament matches. We invite them out and we encourage them to come out because they've always given us a lift. As we move forward in the NCAA Tournament, to have home games is hugely important."
(On the hat trick performance by redshirt sophomore Dylan Mares) "Like Greg, he has benefited from the last two weeks. He's been very sharp in training. Not only in training has it been his best two weeks, but even going back to Marquette he's been getting in a rhythm. He's finding the ball. He's showing up in good spots and good spaces. When he does that, we're such a dangerous team. We're more dangerous when we can kick and connect through him and Will (Vitalis)."
(On next week's opponent Northwestern) "We don't know a whole lot about them right now but we'll know a lot more tomorrow. They're a good team and they play in a good conference in the Big Ten. They've had a very good year. They beat Marquette on the road (today), which says a lot. We will be prepared for them and we know it'll be a good, competitive game for us."
Winthrop Head Coach Rich Posipanko
(Opening statement) "We've played a number of nationally ranked teams this year -- North Carolina, VCU, Old Dominion, SMU, Coastal -- to name a few and Louisville without question is the best team we've played. They're very similar to VCU the way they play possession, but only better. All the credit them, they're a very good team. I'd be shocked if they're not going deep into this tournament. I think they have a legitimate chance to be in the final."
(On what makes Louisville so good) "I think they're athletic to begin with -- all of them. They all have a high technical level. They can all play. They all defend as a team and they attack as a team. They've got the total package."
(On Dylan Mares' hat trick) "I didn't know that until I looked (at the box score). He's a very good player, very quick. They don't take a lot of shots, but when they do, they're on target."
(On falling behind early) "That happened to us in the conference championship, somebody scored in the semifinals in the first minute. It's difficult, especially against a team of this caliber to come back and try to get something going. There's no excuses, on our best day, they're a better team than we are. The best team won."
