
Men's Tennis Takes Down Notre Dame 4-3

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The No. 29 University of Louisville men's tennis team defeated No. 28 Notre Dame Saturday afternoon at the Bass Rudd Tennis Center. The win wrapped up a perfect home 11-0 home record for the Cards who have now won 29 straight home matches dating back to February, 2009. With the win, Louisville improves to 14-11 on the season. Austen Childs, Simon Childs, Viktor Maksimcuk and Alejandro Calligari were honored on Senior Day.
The Cardinals jumped out to an early lead when they captured the doubles point. Alejandro Calligari and Robert Hall kicked things off for Louisville with an 8-4 victory over Notre Dame's Casey Watt and Stephen Havens in the second slot. Simon Childs and Viktor Maksimcuk downed Niall Fitzgerald and Spencer Talmadge 8-6 at the top seed to capture the double point for the Cards. Austen Childs and Adam Donaldson battled through a hard fought match and came from behind to secure the doubles sweep by beating Tyler Davis and Greg Andrews 8-6 at the three-spot.
In singles action, the teams traded points with No. 15 Austen Childs starting the action by defeating No. 58 Casey Watt 6-3, 6-4 to give the Cardinals a 2-0 advantage. Robert Hall fell 6-2, 6-1 to Greg Andrews at No. 4 to bring the score to 2-1 before No. 103 Viktor Maksimcuk downed Stephen Havens 6-2, 6-4 on court two. With Louisville leading 3-1, Simon Childs upset No. 109 Daniel Stahl 6-3, 6-4 to clinch the victory for the Cards.
Notre Dame picked up two more points to end the match. Blas Moros defeated Dante Terenzio 7-6, 6-3 at the sixth spot and Samuel Keeton downed Alejandro Calligari 7-6, 6-3 in the fifth slot.
The Cardinals advance to 14-11 on the season while Notre Dame falls to 15-10.
Louisville will be back in action April 28 when they kick off the BIG EAST Championship in South Bend, Ind.
