The #28 University of Louisville men's tennis team fell to #31 Baylor 6-1 Thursday evening in Waco, Texas. The Cardinals even their record at 9-9 as Baylor improves to 10-3.
U of L dropped the doubles point and then fell in the first three doubles matches with Sergio Ramirez clinching the match at No. 2 spot with a 6-7, 6-1, 6-0 three set win over Viktor Maksimcuk.
"The plan to play three teams that own four of the past seven NCAA Championships helps recruiting but became a hill very hard to climb for us," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "I still believe we are a good team and hope to show it in our next match."
The Cardinals (9-9) dropped the doubles point when #7-ranked John Peers and Roberto Maytin of Baylor managed to hold off #24 ranked Austen Childs and Viktor Maksimcuk 8-5 at No. 1. Cardinals Simon Childs and Amaury Derognat were stymied 8-3 at No. 2 doubles by Kike Grangeiro and Julian Bley. The scrappy Cardinal duo of Alejandro Calligari and Robert Hall battled to an 8-7 win over Jordan Rux and Sergio Ramirez at No. 2.
First to fall was Robert Hall at No. 4 singles, being downed 6-0, 6-2 by #96 Roberto Maytin. #122 Alejandro Calligari fell to BU's #99 Kike Grangeiro 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5.
