
Men's Soccer Defeats Lipscomb 2-0 in Exhibition Play

Louisville, Ky. - The 20th ranked Louisville men's soccer team defeated Lipscomb University 2-0 in exhibition play at Cardinal Park on Saturday night. The Cardinals improve to 1-0 in exhibition play while the Bison fall to 0-1.
"It was nice to get our first game in," said head coach Ken Lolla. "There were a lot of positives to build on and a lot of things to improve on. Overall, I thought the guys did well."
The Cardinals were able to strike first when sophomore Buck Tufty got lose from a defender in the goal box and slipped the ball past the keeper hitting the right back corner in the 37th minute. Lipscomb had a chance to tie it in the 43rd minute when a shot by Nick Bibb was headed out of the net by junior defender Austin Berry.
Louisville ended the first period with a 1-0 lead. The Cards held a slight 4-3 edge in shots while Lipscomb keeper Brent McGee had two saves in the period and Andre Boudreaux finished with one.
The Cardinals were more aggressive on the offensive end during the second half while the defense held the Bison to just one shot. Junior transfer Nick DeLeon headed the ball in off a free kick from sophomore Paolo DelPiccolo in the 69th minute to give the Cards a 2-0 cushion. Louisville finished the game with an 8-4 shot advantage and a 2-0 corner kick advantage.
The Cardinals will be in action again on Tuesday, Aug. 24 against Saint Louis in Cardinal Park at 5:00 p.m. The game will be the final home exhibition game.
