LOUISVILLE, Ky. - LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville cross country coach Brice Allen has announced the men's and women's 2010 schedule, which is highlighted by the Greater Louisville Classic and U of L playing host to the NCAA Southeastern Regional Championships.
"We're excited for the cross country schedule," Louisville track and field coach Ron Mann says, "and we're specifically excited about the announcement of and the opportunity to host the 2012 cross country national championships."
"Continuing to have the regional championship in Louisville is going to give us home-field advantage, and we're thrilled to be hosting that again," Allen adds. "We're also excited to be returning to the pre-eminent meets of Pre-Nationals and the meet that is the Greater Louisville Classic."
The Cardinals, scheduled to have a pair of races in September, begin the season in Evansville, Ind., at the Evansville Opener on Sept. 4. Two weeks later on Sept. 18, the team heads east to compete at the Navy Invite in Annapolis, Md.
Following nearly a four week break, U of L resumes competition and plays host to the annual Greater Louisville Classic on Oct. 2 at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park. Last year, the men's and women's teams each placed in the top five at the event, with the men taking first and the women placing third.
Louisville hits the road again to take part in Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind., on Oct. 16. After a two week layoff, the Cardinals will compete at the BIG EAST Championships in Syracuse, N.Y., on Oct. 30.
U of L returns home for the NCAA Southeastern Regional Championships on Nov. 13. The event will be held at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park.
The cross country season wraps up on Nov. 20 with each team's ultimate goal, NCAA Cross Country Championships, in Terre Haute, Ind. It is the 73rd annual men's competition and the 31st annual women's competition. Teams will compete on the campus of Indiana State University at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center.
