Game Notes
- This marks the third straight year that the winning school has posted a shutout in the title game.
- This is the first time since 1977 and 1978 that the losing team in the Final won the following year (University of San Francisco), however the 1978 title was later vacated.
- The attendance of 9,672 was the largest Championship match crowd since 2004, when 13,601 people saw Indiana defeat UC Santa Barbara on penalty kicks in Carson, Calif.
Louisville Notes
- The Cardinals' season ends with its first-ever 20-win campaign and first NCAA Championship match appearance.
- The last time U of L was held scoreless was a 0-0 tie on Sept. 22 vs. No. 23 Ohio State.
- The 19 shots allowed by the Cardinals equaled the most by any opponent this year (also 19 shots by College of Charleston on Nov. 21).
- Louisville was attempting to become the first undefeated NCAA Champion since Santa Clara accomplished the feat in 1989.
- Junior defender Austin Berry set a career high with five shots.
- Junior goalkeeper Andre Boudreaux's six saves were one-shy of his career high, set in the aforementioned Charleston match.
Akron Notes
- This marks Akron's first NCAA Division I championship in any sport.
- The Zips are now 1-2-0 all-time in the NCAA Championship match after falling in 1986 and 2009.
- Sophomore midfielder Scott Caldwell's game-winning goal was his fifth of the season and third of the NCAA Tournament, also finding the back of the net in the first round vs. West Virginia (Nov. 21) and California (Dec. 4). The other two also came in the postseason, during the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
- On Sunday, Caldwell also set a career high with four shots.
- The Zips finished the year 20-0-0 when holding opponents to one or fewer goals, and went 19-0-0 when scoring first.
- This marked Akron's first-ever win over Louisville; the Zips were previously 0-2-1.
