Men's Tennis beats Minnesota 4-3

The University of Louisville men's tennis team defeated the Minnesota Golden Gophers 4-3 Friday night at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. U of L improved their record to 6-1 while Minnesota drops to 2-1.
"This team has worried me ever since they have been on our schedule," U of L head coach Rex Ecarma said. "From what I've heard from the Big 10, even though they're young, they're going to be contenders to win the whole thing. I really feel we just beat a Top 25 team. I know a Top 25 team when I see it. Give this team time, they're loaded with seven freshman, they're going to do major, major damage. I knew they were tough."
The Cardinals have now won 18 of their last 19 matches at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
"We're very comfortable here, we're very confident here," Ecarma said. "It is extremely difficult to beat us here. I think it showed tonight."
Louisville took the first point after sweeping the doubles matches. Austen Childs and Simon Childs defeated No. 22-ranked Sebastian Gallego and Dino Bilankov 8-6. The 44-ranked team of Robert Rotaru and Alejandro Calligari took out the No. 26-ranked duo of Tobias Wernet and Michael Sicora while Viktor Maksimcuk and Robert Hall ousted Ishay Hadash and Phil Arndt.
In singles action, Austen Childs, Hall and Calligari all won points for the Cardinals. Austen Childs defeated Ishay Hadash 6-4, 7-6, while Hall beat Jonathan Hadash 6-3, 6-4 and Calligari beat Sicora 6-0, 6-4. In other action, Louisville's Simon Childs fell to Wernet 7-6, 4-6, Maksimcuk fell to Gallego 6-4, 6-2 and Rotaru lost to Arndt 7-6, 6-3.
The Cards next will travel to Madison, Wisconsin to take on the Wisconsin Badgers on Sunday.
