Men's Tennis Upsets Wisconsin in Comeback

The No. 43-ranked University of Louisville men's tennis team came back after dropping the doubles point to win four singles matches to upset No. 38-ranked Wisconsin 4-3 at Nielsen Tennis Stadium Sunday afternoon in Madison.
"Any time we go to Madison we know its going to be a flat out war, especially playing a team that was second in the Big Ten last year. They have lots of talent and pride. I'm especially proud to come out with a win," said U of L coach Rex Ecarma.
The Cardinals dropped all three doubles matchups to the Badgers with Viktor Maksimcuk and Robert Hall falling first 8-3 to UW's Luke Rassow-Kantor and Patrick Pohlmann. Michael Muskievicz and Michael Dierberger of Wisconsin took down Robert Rotaru and Alejandro Calligari 8-5 at No. 2. U of L's No. 1 pair of Austen Childs and Simon Childs fell 8-4 to Moritz Baumann and Marek Michalicka to tip the point to the Badgers.
"Our players' efforts didn't look good after we got flat out spanked in doubles. After our meeting, the players all told the coaching staff that they would come back and win this match. When it's coming from them, I have all the confidence in the world," said Ecarma.
But the turnaround didn't come right away as Robert Rotaru fell to Patrick Pohlmann 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 to give UW a 2-0 lead. Louisville got its first point when Viktor Maksimcuk rolled over Luke Rassow-Kantor 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3. Alejandro Calligari's 6-4, 6-3 win over Michael Dierberger at No. 6 tied the score at 2. Robert Hall gave U of L the lead at 3-2 when he beat UW's Peter Marrack 6-4, 6-2.
The Badgers bit back, nipping Simon Childs in three sets when Moritz Baumann pulled out a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 win at No. 2. to tie the score at three. No. 1 player Austen Childs outlasted Marek Michalicka 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 for the win.
"It was a big match for Austen Childs, beating such a good player in Marek Michalicka when the match was tied at 3-all," said Ecarma.
