LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Following his first career victory at last week's Mid-America Opener, Louisville junior Scott McClain was named BIG EAST Athlete of the Week yesterday by the league office.
A native of Louisville and a graduate of St. Xavier High School, McClain led the Louisville men to a season-opening win in Evansville, while defeating a field of 78 other runners for his first ever win. He covered the 6,000-meter course in a time of 18 minutes, 12.11 seconds for the win.
The BIG EAST will be selecting one male and one female runner each week for the award based on individual efforts each week of the season. Providence's Danette Doetzel earned this week's women's award.
Following two weeks off from competition, the Cards will return to action on Sept. 20 at the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C.
