Louisville, Ky. - Louisville head coach Jeff Walz has announced that Pennsylvania basketball standout Becky Burke will play for the Cardinals next season. Burke was recently granted a release from her original letter of intent at the University of South Carolina after the coaching change.
"We are thrilled to have Becky join our family," said Walz. "This was a unique situation and we were fortunate to have a scholarship available. Becky helps fill a void we have on our team and we can't wait to get her acclimated to campus. She will bring scoring, leadership, and a tenacious work ethic which fits perfectly into our plans for the future."
Burke, a 5-11 guard from Clarks Summit, Pa., was named the Pennsylvania Class AAAA Player of the Year by the Associated Press. She was a first team all-state selection the last two seasons. She finished her senior year at Abington Heights High School averaging 25.7 points while helping them to a 26-2 overall record. She also earned WBCA High School All-American Honorable Mention Honors.
Burke finished her career at Abington Heights with 2,162 points. She was named the Scranton Times-Tribune Player of the Year the last three seasons. Burke finished her junior season averaging 21 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.
She joins the fall signees Janae Howard, Mary Jackson, Monique Reid, Gwen Rucker, and Tiera Stephen giving the Cardinals their best class in school history.
