
Cards Close Weekend at Texas Relays and Austin Peay Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas - On Saturday, sophomore Jere' Summers set a school record in the shot put at the Texas Relays with the second-best throw in the nation this season, while the University of Louisville track and field team won 17 event titles at the Austin Peay Invitational in Clarksville, Tenn.
Summers, a native of Oakland, Calif., led the way for the Cards on the final day of action at the Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas with a school record and NCAA Mideast Regional qualifying throw of 55 feet to finish second among collegiate throwers and fourth overall in the shot put. The throw was more than four feet better than the previous U of L school record of 50-08 set by Shola Kadiri in 2002.
Joining Summers with a regional qualifying mark on Saturday in Texas was senior captain ZeNai Savage with a personal best throw of 50-05 to finish seventh overall.
Also on Saturday, the Cards had a group of athletes competing at Austin Peay, where they won 17 event titles, led by nine for the Louisville women. Freshman D'Ana McCarty led the way with a pair of wins in the discus and shot put. Also earning titles for the women on Saturday was Kat Alcorn in the 400m, Tarah McKay in the 1500m, Kathryn Long in the 5000m, Brittany Hotaling in the high jump, Amaka Omenyinma in the long jump, Jenean Pressley in the triple jump and Andrea Sabbatine in the pole vault.
The Louisville men won eight event titles on Saturday at Austin Peay. Seniors Chris Danks, Brad Keys and Nathan Navaro led the way for the Cards. Danks won the 400m, Keys won the 110m hurdles and Navaro won the 400m hurdles. Other wins on Saturday were posted by Michael Eaton in the 1500m, Neil Angermeier in the high jump, Kyle Gann in the pole vault, Andrew Hackney in the discus and Weston Banks in the shot put.
Up next, the Cards will compete at the Sea Ray Relays on April 9-12 in Knoxville, Tenn.
