Tampa, Fla. - The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and State Farm announced today the 2008 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I State Farm Coaches' All-America Basketball Team. Louisville junior Angel McCoughtry was named to the 10 person team. This year's team marks the first State Farm Coaches' All-America Team, as Eastman Kodak held the previous sponsorship for 33 years. Selection committees in each of the eight WBCA geographical regions select the top ten women's basketball players in the nation to be honored.
McCoughtry earned the honor for the seasond straight season. The ten person team was comprised of five seniors, four juniors and one freshman. McCoughtry was named a USBWA All-American and Associated Press All-American earlier this week.
McCoughtry was named an All-BIG EAST First Team selection for the second consecutive year. She currently ranks fourth in the nation in scoring and second nationally in steals, leading the BIG EAST with 23.8 points and 4.1 steals per game this season. She was recently named a finalist for The State Farm Wade Trophy.
McCoughtry currently holds the single-season scoring (858 points) and steals (148) record at Louisville, setting both marks as a sophomore last year and surpassing them as a junior this year. She also broke the single-game scoring mark last season when she netted 41 points against Eastern Illinois. Last summer she won a gold medal representing USA Basketball at the Pan Am Games in Brazil. Overall she has totaled 1,878 points in her first three years with the Cardinals and ranks second in Louisville history, just 21 points behind Nell Knox ('93) who totaled 1,899 points.
