
Women's Basketball Begins NCAA Tournament Play

Bridgeport, Conn. - The University of Louisville women's basketball team will play Miami (Ohio) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, March 23 at 2:47 p.m. in Bridgeport, Conn. The game will be broadcast regionally on ESPN and out of state fans can watch the broadcast on ESPN360.
Louisville earned its fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament bid for the first time in school history and its 12th overall appearance for the Cardinals. Junior Angel McCoughtry leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 23.6 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. Candyce Bingham is second on the team in scoring and rebounding with 13.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. Senior point guard Patrika Barlow leads the team and the league in assists with 6.8 per game.
Miami (Ohio) earned its first trip to the NCAA Tournament with a 67-56 win over Ohio in the Mid-American Conference Championship game on March 15. Miami's won their first MAC Championship game since the 1994-95 season. The Redhawks are led in scoring by senior guard Amanda Jackson with 21.6 points per game.
The game will be the 11th meeting between the two teams. The Cardinals leads the series 6-4 over the Redhawks. Louisville won the last meeting 92-71 in Freedom Hall during the 2001-02 season.
