Louisville vs. Providence

Louisville Head Coach Jeff Walz
(On Louisville's slow start)
"I thought we came out at the start and played hard. We missed some layups, we missed some easy opportunities, and had some balls go through our hands. In my opinion, we let them dictate how we guarded them. We were awful the first 13 minutes of the game. We couldn't stop them and they made every shot. Unfortunately, it's not the way we're going to be able to play if we expect to win some more games."
(On guarding Chauntise)
"We're working extremely hard with the post players. Coach Norman and Coach Clark-Heard do a great job working with them everyday in practice trying to prepare them for games like this. Some games you're going to go up against a 6'4 or 6'5 player and we're starting to use our strengths and our size to our advantage. Instead of turning into the defender we are learning to do a little hook shot and protect the ball. I thought Chauntise played extremely well in the first half for us."
(On teams playing Angel physical)
"That's exactly how I would play her too. They did a really good job and at times Angel lets her emotions get the best of her. Starting the game, she let her frustration that she missed a couple of shots get the best of her. Teams are giving her the 3-point shot. I'm trying to get her to understand that even though it's open she's most effective inside the 3- point line, at 15 or 18 feet. After she's made a few of those and gets into a rhythm, she steps back and knocks down her three. Angel's starting to understand that and it's a positive thing for her and for us. I thought in the second half she did a great job of shooting some pull-up jump shots. Once she came back I thought she did a really great job of letting the game come to her."
(On getting a 4th seed)
"We've got West Virginia; I think they're 11-2. Notre Dame has four loses looking at their schedule they may come out with five. They would win the tie breaker over us because of the head to head. I think the best we could possibly do is a six seed. We would have to win out and then we could finish anywhere between six, seven and eight."
Junior Chauntise Wright
(Candyce, Angel and herself scoring 60 out of the first 63 points)
"It wasn't really a focus, we knew they couldn't really guard me and both of their big girls had two fouls."
(On playing her best ball)
"I feel like I'm starting to peak. Coach is starting to play me more and I'm beginning to run up and down the floor better. If I post up, the guards are going to get me the ball, so I have just been working on posting up hard."
Junior Angel McCoughtry
(On the physical play)
"It's happening more and more every game. It may have been their game plan. I got an elbow in the mouth and my two front teeth are loose. I started to cry because I thought I spit my teeth out, but it's a good thing they're still in there. I'm definitely going to the dentist."
Junior Candyce Bingham
(What did it take to get you jump started)
"We weren't playing defense the first couple minutes. We had to bear down and start playing defense and that got us out running so we were able to stick to the game plan."
(On Chauntise, Angel and herself scoring 60 of the first 63 points)
"We were more focused on getting the ball to Chauntise. She played very well against Seton Hall so the focus was getting the ball to her because no one can guard her, and we did a good job of that."
(On the West Virginia game)
"It will be a good opportunity playing the 13th or 14th ranked team in the country. Hopefully we can go up there and concentrate on the little things like rebounding - which will be key, and just playing our game. If we just take care of business and do the little things we will be fine."
