Men's Tennis Defeats Dayton 7-0

Louisville, Ky. - - The University of Louisville men's tennis team defeated visiting Dayton 7-0 Friday evening at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center to complete a two match sweep on the day. The Cards also defeated Western Kentucky 7-0 in the noon match. Louisville improves its record to 6-0, matching a school-best record set in 1998. The Flyers dropped to 2-2 on the season.
"I think Dayton got us at a time when we were a well oiled machine," said U of L head coach "We have played six matches and dropped an average of one set. As far as doubles, we have won 17 out of 18 pro sets. We are just at a moment in our schedule when I'm going deep into my bench and bringing in hungry, prepared and confident players."
The Cards began the match by sweeping doubles. At the top seed, freshman Austen Childs and Simon Childs defeated Michael Rohana and David Peyton 8-1. Sophomores David Simon and Kenneth Nordheim handled James O'Connell and Matt Sherman 8-2 in the No.2 match. Sophomore James McArthur and freshman Viktor Maksimcuk posted a 8-3 win over Michael Koscielski and Antonio Rodriguez at the three-spot.
In singles, Austen Childs defeated Rohana 6-3, 6-2 at the top seed. Simon Childs beat Sherman 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2. Maksimcuk also picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win over O'Connell in the No.3 match. At No. 4, junior Robert Rotaru defeated Peyton 6-0, 6-1. Freshman Alejandro Calligari registered a 6-4, 6-0 win over Rodriguez at No. 5. Sophomore Ben Clos beat Bryce Warnock 6-3, 6-0 at the six-spot.
The Cards continue their nine-match home stand on February 8th against No. 24 Tennessee at 5:00 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
