Louisville Head Coach Jeff Walz
"We worked the past two days on defense, they run the triangle offense and they do a very good job of it. If you get caught watching they can score in bunches. For the most part I thought we did an outstanding job defending them. The last two or three minutes of the first half Angel started trying to gamble a little and got beat twice on back door cuts. That's what they do to you, if you continue to try to do those things they will score on you. We did a good job tonight I was very pleased with all the players."
(On Angel's triple-double)
"I didn't know she got another triple-double. She only played six minutes in the second half so, I think it's pretty amazing to come up with 18, 10 and 10 and play 26 minutes. They are a very good basketball team. Tonight we defended them extremely well. They are going to win a lot of games.
(On Louisville's enthusiasm)
"We've been trying to teach these kids you have to have an attitude. Do what ever you have to do, scare somebody if you have to. Try to intimidate them. She (Angel McCoughtry) barked in our Mad Dog half court press, and the poor kid threw it to her. You have to find a way. We want them to be more aggressive. We do have a lot of passive players that we're trying to change to be aggressive. Hopefully they will all continue that approach.
(which players need to improve) All our freshman, you're talking about a group of kids that come from high school where they are normally the best player and don't have to work all that hard. Now they're just another good player. The furthest along is probably Mary Jackson. She's not the biggest kid on the floor, she's not the strongest kid on the floor, but she plays hard. I was very pleased with her, coming up with seven boards is great and four of them offensively. So, she has really done a good job. I am very pleased with her in the last two games she's played for us."
(On Angel)
"We are working hard on trying to get her (Angel) to see the open player. She had two or three times where she pulled up. They were good shots but they ran two players at her and all she had to do was dump down and she had an assist. But if you can get 18, 10 and 10 you can keep shooting."
(On Deseree' Byrd)
"She brings energy, she brings excitement, and she is a leader on the floor. I think she poses a match up problem for the other team. She moves to the basket well and now she is shooting the three well. If she continues to play the way she's been playing it's really going to help out our post players.
(On Brandie Radde's shooting ability)
"That's the way she played all last year so I am hoping that now she has her feel back and understands her role. We need her to knock down shots. If she can do that it's going to make it a lot easier on everybody else."
Senior Guard Deseree' Bryd
(On her health)
"I feel great. I got out of the hospital and took a day off and came back to my team. I was anxious to get back and I am feeling better."
(On Gwen Rucker's impact) "She has brought a lot. She is a very long and lengthy player. She is a very smart player and she was getting after it right off the bat. We don't have a lot of size and she definitely brings that. She is a very good player and I think she understands the game and she understands what we are trying to do as a team."
Junior Guard Brandie Radde
(On Bryd's impact)
"Des brings a lot of energy and excitement every time we get prepared for the game and throughout the game. Her communication and her energy is a big part of why we do well."
(On her confidence during the game after hitting her first 3-pointer)
"It was a great kick out by Candyce (Bingham) finding me in the corner. Just knocking down the first shot, it always gets players going."
Senior Forward Angel McCoughtry
(On her triple-double with defense)
"It feels very good to do that with defense because that is what we stress in practice is defense, defense, defense. It feels good and I thought we played well and they struggled with our "mad dog" press. It was a very good team effort tonight."
(On the Kentucky game)
"It should be a lot of fun and I am looking forward to that game and having a big crowd here. It will be fun. I think when we have fun, we play even harder and good things happen."
