Louisville, Ky. - Two Louisville men's soccer players were honored this week after the Cardinals pulled a 2-1 upset of No. 2 St. John's on Saturday evening. Freshman Colin Rolfe was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week and senior John Jonke was named to the College Soccer News Team of the Week.
Rolfe becomes the second cardinal player to earn BIG EAST Rookie of the Week honors. Rolfe had a hand in both goals that helped the Cardinals pull off the upset. Rolfe scored the equalizer on a header in the 50th minute and in the 57th minute, the freshman headed the ball to defender John Jonke, who scored the game-winner. Rolfe leads the team in scoring with four goals and one assist for nine points.
Jonke scored the game-winning goal against the Red Storm. Rolfe headed the ball into the middle and Jonke rose above everyone to put the ball in the net in the 57th minute. Jonke also helped the Cardinal defense keep the Red Storm out of the net in the final minutes of the match to seal the victory. It was the second game-winning goal for Jonke this season.
Louisville also earned its highest ranking in school history this week. The Cardinals are ranked No. 7 in this week's Soccer America poll. Louisville is also ranked No. 8 by College Soccer News and No. 3 by Top Drawer Soccer. The adidas/NSCAA poll will be released on Tuesday morning.
