Piscataway, NJ - The 13th ranked Cardinals (9-5-2, 4-4-1) fell 2-1 to Rutgers (6-7-3, 3-4-2) Saturday evening at Yurcak Field.

Rutgers got on the board first in the 29th minute when Robert McLarney blasted a shot from 25 yards out and buried it in the top right corner of the goal. The Cardinals had two chances to score the equalizer in the late minutes of the period. Chase Kreger had a shot on goal but it was saved in the 38th minute. Then Aaron Clapham sent a corner kick into the box where Ryan McDonald's header was caught by Rutger's Amir Haghshenas in the 39th minute. The Scarlet Knights finished the first half with a 7-2 shot advantage.

Almost three minutes into the second period, both teams and fans were evacuated from the field as a lightning delay suspended the game for nearly 45 minutes.

The Cardinals had two opportunites in the 58th minute when Colin Rolfe host a ball in that was saved Haghshenas. The best chance came when Freddie Braun hit the post in the 59th minute. The Cardinals had another shot on goal by Rolfe in the 71st minute. Then 20 seconds later Braun headed the ball in but Rutgers came up with another save.

Then in the 72nd minute, the Scarlet Knights' Gaetano Panuccio scored off a free kick from Josh Carrol. Carrol sent the ball into the box and Panuccio managed to get his head on the ball amid all the traffic in the box.

Louisville got on the board in the 86th minute when J.T. Murray sent a free kick into Ryan McDonald who netted his fourth goal of the season.

Louisville finished the game with a 13-12 shot advantage, including an 11-5 advantage in the second half. Cardinal keeper Andre Boudreaux finished with three saves while Haghshenas finished with four.

The Cardinals will host DePaul on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 7:00 p.m. in Cardinal Park. The game will be senior night for seniors Ryan McDonald, Aaron Clapham and John Jonke.
