
United States Defeats Argentina in Pan Am Games 85-54

Rio de Janiero, Brazil - The United States defeated Argentina 85-54 in the second preliminary round game of the Pan Am Games at Rio Multipurpose Arena Saturday evening. Emily Fox, a reserve from Minnesota, led the U.S. with 18 points and Tasha Humphreys finished with 14 points.
The U.S. jumped out to an early 12-2 lead in the first five minutes. The United States finished the first quarter with a 25-11 lead. The U.S. finished the second quarter with a 45-15 lead.
Argentina played better in the second half, cutting the lead to 55-30 in the first five minutes of the third quarter. The United States then held Argentina to just five points to end the quarter. Team USA continued to cruise to their second win in Group B of the preliminary round of the Pan Am Games.
The United States finished the game shooting 46 percent from the field and 40 percent from behind the arc. The U.S. outrebounded Argentina 48-24.
Louisville's Angel McCoughtry only saw 10 minutes of action. She finished the game with four rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block.
The United States will face Cuba in the final preliminary round at 7:45 p.m. Both teams are 2-0 in preliminary action.
