
Men's Tennis Thwart USF Bulls 4-3

The University of Louisville men's tennis team edged BIG EAST opponent South Florida 4-3 Friday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
The Cardinals are now 8-12 overall and 1-0 in BIG EAST play.
Louisville started the match off strong by winning the doubles point. The No. 9-ranked doubles pair of Slavko Radman and Damar Johnson defeated Mahmoud Hamed and Thomas Estrada 9-7. The freshman pair of David Simon and James McArthur beat Hennig Hipp and Daniel Daudt, 8-3, to seal the doubles point. Chris Herrlinger and Morton Sivertson fell 8-4 to Marc Jaeger and Alex Svigelj.
In singles play, Johnson scored the first point by overpowering Jaeger at No. 2, 7-6, 6-2. Simon defeated Thomas Estrada, 6-3, 3-6, 6-0, at No. 5. Radman, who is ranked No. 60, sealed the match by pulling out a close one against Alex Svigelj, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4, at No. 1 singles. Robert Rotaru lost to Hamed at No. 3, 7-6, 6-1, while Kenneth Nordheim fell at No. 4 to Estrada, 6-3, 3-6,6-0. Hipp of USF defeated McArthur at No. 6, 6-3, 6-3.
"It was a real team effort," commented coach Rex Ecarma on the win. "Our freshman doubles team did what they had to do to set up Slavko and Damar in doubles."
The Cardinals play again on April 8 when they face Virginia Commonwealth at 11:00 a.m. at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
