
No. 14 Alabama Defeats Men's Tennis 4-2

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - - The University of Louisville men's tennis team fell to No. 14 Alabama 4-2 in a rain-delayed match that was suspended because of rain on Thursday and was resumed Friday in the Blue-Gray Invitational.
The Cardinals won the doubles point as the team of Slavko Radman and James McArthur defeated Joseph Jung and Saketh Myneni 8-1 at the two-spot and Damar Johnson and Chris Herrlinger edged Billy Mertz and Javier Bex 9-8 at No. 3. Alabama's 27th-ranked team of Dan Buikema and Mathieu Thibaudeau defeated Robert Rotaru and David Simon 8-4 at No. 1.
Radman, No. 99 in the ITA singles rankings, picked up Louisville's other point with a 7-5, 7-5 win over Sammy Struyf at the top seed. Alabama's 84th-ranked Jung edged Johnson 7-5, 7-6 at No. 2. Mertz topped Rotary 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3. Javier Bes picked up a 6-2, 6-4 win over Kenneth Nordheim at No. 4 and Houssam Yassime defeated McArthur 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6. The No. 5 match between Alabama's Mathieu Thibaudeau and David Simon was suspended.
"We let some great opportunities slip out of our hands" said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "We were in position to do something special, but fumbled at the end of the match."
