Louisville vs. Xavier

Louisville Head Coach Jeff Walz
On Angel's triple double
"She played extremely hard. There was about a two minute stretch where I thought she was forcing things. She was putting up shots that weren't within our offense. I took her out after that and we talked about it and she had a 21-point performance tonight. Her 21 points were within our offense and when she does that we have a chance to be a special basketball team. Her ten steals means that during the game we are putting our players in a position to be successful. Candyce (Bingham) came up with three steals tonight, when I go back to grade the game film, I am sure she had about 8 or 10 deflections where Angel or Partika (Barlow) came up with the steal, but she is the one who caused it."
On Candyce's extra motivation against Xavier
"That's good to hear. I hope she keeps working this hard. She's really a great player. I've got a lot of respect for Coach McGuff. He's a good friend of mine. They do a great job at Xavier. Candyce was excited to play against a team where she had transferred from. They were great to her while she was there. Kevin (McGuff) did a great job teaching her the game and it has paid off for us."
On coaching a player like Angel
I've been fortunate to have coached a few of them at Maryland. She fits in with all those other players I've coached. They're not just great players, they're great kids. She comes to practice everyday and she works hard. That's not the norm, to be honest, with great players you normally have to get them into the gym. It really wouldn't surprise me if I'm in the office tonight at 8 and she's in the gym shooting, It's on her own, but that's why she's as good as she is. Angel's a special player and I'm excited to be able to work with her for two years."
Xavier Head Coach Kevin McGuff
"Louisville played much harder; they deserved to win the game. They did a good job and we weren't very good today. That's on me and my players to make sure we get better prepared for the next game."
"She's a great player and she has great skills and such great anticipation that she really dominated the game."
On Foul trouble playing a factor
"I think it did. We're young and those are immature fouls on us. We can't make those early in the game, and it put us in a bad position."
On defensive pressure by U of L
"I thought we were in the right position, we just had to handle the pressure better with pass fakes and better decisions. They really capitalized on our mistakes."
