Men's Tennis Falls to South Alabama 4-3

LOUISVILLE, Ky.- - The No. 29-ranked University of Louisville men's tennis team fell to visiting No. 46 South Alabama 4-3 Saturday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The loss ends the Cards regular season home winning streak at 49. Louisville falls to 3-1 on the season, while South Alabama opens the season 1-0.
"We have to give credit to South Alabama," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "It was a dogfight that could have gone either way."
The Jaguars swept the doubles to start the match 1-0. Marek Sramek and Robert Hodel edged Louisville's No. 24-ranked Slavko Radman and Damar Johnson 9-7 at the top seed. South Alabama's No. 33 ranked Dias Doskarayev and RJ Nagel topped David Simon and Chris Herrlinger 8-7 at No. 2. Craig Dunne and Jack Baker beat Robert Rotaru and Pablo Camacho 8-5 at the three-spot.
In singles action, Radman, No. 71 in ITA singles rankings defeated Doskarayev 7-6, 7-6 at the top seed. Rotaru picked up a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 win over Hodel at No. 4 and Horatiu Oltean beat Dunne 4-6, 7-6, 6-2 at the six-spot.
For South Alabama, Backer defeated Johnson 7-6, 7-6 at No. 2. Nagle picked up a 6-1, 6-3 win over Kenneth Nordheim and Sramek, No. 20 in ITA singles rankings, clinched the match with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 win over David Simon at No. 3.
U of L (3-1) will travel to Knoxville, Tenn., to play Tennessee Jan. 30 at 3 p.m.
