
Women's Basketball Releases 2006-07 Schedule

Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's basketball has announced its much anticipated 2006-07 30-game schedule which features 16 teams that participated in postseason play last season and five teams that are currently ranked in several preseason Top 25 polls. The Cardinals' schedule features 19 games against teams that held an RPI of 150 or better last season. All game dates are tentative and subject to change. Some game times and televised dates will be released at a later date.
"We feel we've put together a schedule with just the right balance to prepare us for the challenges of the BIG EAST," said head coach Tom Collen. "The Cardinal Classic, our exempted multi-team event to open the season, will be a terrific challenge. Bellarmine University has agreed to host this event along with our only exhibition game since Freedom Hall was not available."
The Cardinals will prepare for the regular season with an exhibition game against the Hoosier Lady Stars on Nov. 3 at Knights Hall at Bellarmine University. Louisville will tip off the regular season hosting the Cardinal Classic Nov. 10-12. The Cards will play their first game in Freedom Hall on Nov. 19 against Furman at 1:00 p.m. Louisville will wrap up the month of November with three straight road games. The Cardinals will travel to UC Santa Barbara on Nov. 24 the head to Northern Colorado on Nov. 26. Wrapping up November the Cardinals will travel to Xavier on Nov. 30.
"Back-to-back weekend games in December with Kentucky and Western Kentucky will provide us with BIG EAST type challenges in Freedom Hall," said Collen. "Road games with Xavier, Florida and UC Santa Barbara will be great preparation as well. The 30 game regular season schedule will be the most in school history and 10 of our 14 nonconference games will be at home."
The Cards will return to the friendly confines of Freedom Hall most of the month of December. Kicking off the five game home stand will be a Dec. 3 match up with rival Kentucky at 1:00 p.m. in Freedom Hall. Then on Dec. 9 the Cardinals will host Western Kentucky in Freedom Hall at 1:00 p.m. Louisville will play its first BIG EAST game on Dec. 14 as they host the Cincinnati Bearcats in Freedom Hall at 7:00 p.m. Wrapping up the five game home stand the Cards will host WNIT participant Belmont on Nov. 16 and Butler on Nov. 18. The Cardinals will then travel to Gainesville, Fla. for a game against the Florida Gators on Dec. 21. Two games against Eastern Illinois on Dec. 29 and Sacramento State on Dec. 31 give the Cardinals a final warm-up before the start a full slate of BIG EAST play.
Louisville will tip off the new year on Jan. 3 at Providence. The Cardinals will play four BIG EAST road games in the month of January. Louisville will travel to Georgetown on Jan. 9, to South Florida on Jan. 16 and at Villanova on Jan. 30.
The Cardinals will host three BIG EAST games in January. Seton Hall visits Freedom Hall on Jan. 6 while defending BIG EAST Champion, Rutgers will visit on Jan. 20. The Cards will host Pittsburgh on Jan. 23.
Louisville will play three BIG EAST games on the road during the month of February. The Cards will travel to Notre Dame on Feb. 6 and then to Connecticut on Feb. 13. The Cards final road game will be against Syracuse on Feb. 24.
In February the Cardinals will host four BIG EAST in Freedom Hall. Kicking off February, Louisville will host the DePaul Blue Demons on Feb. 3. The Cardinals will host Syracuse on Feb. 10 and St. John's on Feb. 20. Louisville will wrap up the regular season on Feb. 26 against West Virginia, which will be senior day for Cardinals Jazz Covington, Helen Johnson, and Katie Olson.
The top 12 teams will qualify for the 2008 BIG EAST Tournament, to be held March 3-6 at the Hartford (CT) Civic Center.
