Cardinal Rowing Opens NCAA South/Central Sprints

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - The University of Louisville rowing program closed out Saturday's racing at the NCAA South/Central Sprints on Melton Hill Lake with all four Cardinal crews advancing to Sunday morning's "B" Finals in each event.
The Cards will open Sunday's races in the Open 4+ "B" Final at 10:10 a.m. ET, followed by the Varsity 4+ "B" Final at 10:50 a.m. The 2nd Varsity 8+ "B" Final is scheduled to begin at 11:10 a.m., while the Varsity 8+ "B" Final is set for 11:30 a.m. The day's schedule will close with the Varsity 8+ "A" Final at 11:40 a.m. ET.
"We're pretty happy with how we raced on Saturday," said U of L head coach Richard Ruggieri. "It's the first time we've had four boats qualify for at least the "B" finals at this event, so I think today showed our improved depth and the progress of the program. We hope to earn some strong finishes on Sunday and close out the season with a chance at earning a Top 20 national ranking."
On Saturday, Louisville's Varsity 8+ boat opened its racing with a third-place finish in Heat #3 with a time of 6:58.3 and followed that with a fifth-place finish in A/B Semifinal #2 with a time of 6:52.16. The Cards' 2nd Varsity 8+ boat was third in its heat race with a time of 7:04.7, and was fifth in A/B Semifinal #1 with a time of 7:09.15.
In the Varsity 4+ event, the Cards were fourth in Heat #1 with a time of 7:52.0 and sixth in A/B semifinal #1 with a time of 8:22.30, while in the Open 4+ event, U of L was fourth in Heat #2 at 7:53.2 and fifth in the Semifinal #1 at 8:15.63.
