Louisville, Ky. - Candyce Bingham, a 6-0 forward from Louisville, Ky. who played the last two seasons at Xavier University, has transferred to the University of Louisville.
"We are really excited to welcome Candyce into our program and back to her hometown," said head coach Tom Collen. "She was the very first player we offered a scholarship to when we arrived here three years ago. My feeling about her as a person, player and student have never changed. She has struggled with a lot of minor injuries during her career, but we believe with a full year to develop, she will have a better chance to reach her full potential. I think she will have a chance to impact us immediately the year she becomes eligible."
Bingham saw action in 24 games last season. She averaged 5.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 19.8 minutes per game. She finished her sophomore year connecting on 32.9 percent from the field and 67.4 percent from the foul line. She scored a career-high 12 points against George Washington and St. Bonaventure and pulled down a career-high eight rebounds against St. Joseph's.
She saw action in just nine games her sophomore season, missing nearly two months recovering from an injury. Bingham finished her freshman season averaging 2.0 points and 2.0 rebounds per game. She connected on 30 percent from the field and 80 percent from the foul line.
Bingham finished her senior season at Dupont Manual High School averaging 23 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks. She completed her career at Manual High School with 1350 points, 402 rebounds, 200 assists and 91 blocks. Bingham earned first team all-state, all-region and all-district honors her senior season. She finished her senior year ranked 102nd best player and as the 13th best wing player in the nation by All-Star Girls Report.
