
Men's Tennis Defeats William & Mary 5-2

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - - The No. 21-ranked University of Louisville men's tennis team defeated No. 62 William & Mary 6-1 Sunday at the Tribe's Busch Tennis Courts. The Cardinals snap a three-match losing streak and improve to 14-5 on the season. The loss lowers the Tribe's record to 9-13.
Louisville took a 1-0 lead in the match, winning the doubles point with victories at the top two positions. Jeremy Clark and Jakob Gustafsson finished first, defeating senior Stephen Ward and Dominic Pagon, 8-3 at No. 1. Jhonny Berrido and Damar Johnson clinched the point with an 8-4 win at No. 2 over sophomore Alex Cojanu and Billy Mulligan who are ranked 42nd in the nation. William & Mary avoided the doubles sweep with a win on court three, where Colin O¹Brien and Kavi Sud defeated Slavko Radman and Tony Teufel 8-6.
The Cardinals went on to win the first five completed singles matches, starting with Johnson's 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 3. Clark put Louisville one point away from victory with a 6-3, 7-5 decision over Mulligan at No. 4, and Radman, ranked 96th in the nation, clinched the win with a 7-6 (2), 6-0 victory over Ward in the top match. At No. 6, Nicolas Houard defeated Matt Rubenstein 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, and Robert Rotaru beat Alexander Zuck 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 at No. 5. O'Brien gave the Tribe its only point at the two-spot with a 6-7 (3), 6-4, 1-0 (10-7)win over Gustafsson.
U of L will travel to Tampa, Fla., April 8 to face VCU at noon. The Cards will play host South Florida on April 9 at noon.
