LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -Angel McCoughtry scored a career-high 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead No. 17 Louisville to a 70-58 win over Western Kentucky on Saturday.
Yuliya Tokova had 13 points and nine rebounds and Patrika Barlow added 11 points, six rebounds and four assists as Louisville (9-0) took control early then held off a second-half surge by the Lady Toppers (5-3).
Western Kentucky's Crystal Kelly battled foul trouble in the first half but finished with 20 points. The Lady Toppers, however, made just 4 of 27 shots from 3-point range and shot 32 percent from the floor on the game.
Louisville won despite committing 21 turnovers - the third straight game the Cardinals have given the ball away at least 20 times - and making just one 3-pointer.
Western Kentucky trailed by 14 at the half, but closed within 41-36 midway through the second half. The Cardinals, however, responded behind McCoughtry and Tokova to pull away.
The Cardinals raced to a 20-point lead, scoring the game's first 12 points as the Hilltoppers missed their first seven shots from the field. It didn't get much better for Western, which shot an anemic 24 percent in the first half as it struggled to shoot over Louisville's zone.
The Lady Toppers came into the game shooting 41 percent from 3-point range on the season, but missed their first 10 shots from behind the arc.
Only some sloppy ballhandling by the Cardinals allowed the Hilltoppers to keep it competitive. Louisville turned the ball over a dozen times in the first half, but still led 32-18 at the break.
