Louisville vs. Villanova

Villanova Head Coach Harry Perretta
"I thought we played pretty good today. I thought we had trouble with their athleticism and their inside game. For us to win we have to make threes and we made five today. We were able to generate 22, but we only made five. We have to make threes for us to win. We don't really have an inside game to go to."
(On Louisville's Patrika Barlow) "She made some really nice individual plays. That's the problem. Our kids are different type players. We can't break people down off the dribble. That's why I talk about easy baskets. Not that it's easy, but they can generate points off of individual plays. She did that down the stretch. That was a real big play she made down on the baseline. And then, the one where she drove it to the hoop, I thought we should have switched. The last one, we made a defensive error, we forgot where the kid was under the basket. Every time they made an individual play, I think we were down three at that time. So, we still had a chance to tie the game, so they were all big plays."
"I thought in the second half we ran the offense better than we did in the first half. It wears our opponents out. I thought there for a stretch when we got up four or five, if we could have just made a couple baskets, but we don't seem to score the ball consistently. Even when we got up three at one point, I think we missed a layup to go up five."
"I said that the league teams 3 to 11 are better than any league in the country. I don't think Connecticut and Rutgers this year are Duke or Tennessee. But, three through ten is really good, and unfortunately that's where we are. So, the competiveness in team three through ten is better than any league in the country."
"I like to figure out where the teams are going to finish after I get to see them play. I haven't seen Notre Dame play yet. Talent wise, Louisville is probably higher than where they were picked. They are probably three through five. I think they could get third if they play really well. They have an inside game and they have guards that can generate points off the dribble."
Louisville Head Coach Tom Collen
"It's a great win. I was pretty nervous about this game. I think a lot of people in the community were excited about us moving into the Big East. I think everybody talks about UConn and Notre Dame and the thing they don't understand is that Villanova is the sleeper. They're the team that can come in here and beat you. They are probably the biggest giant slayer of any team in this conference. They've done it to UConn and Notre Dame time and time again. So, we were a little nervous because this was one we really had to get by and had to come out and give a good effort. I have to give credit to a couple of my assistant coaches. Greg Collins did a great job scouting Villanova and Coach Eatman did a great job defending them."
"I think that there were thirteen teams that came into conference play with two losses or less. We have to get people to understand that. I would love to have the Big East standings printed in the newspaper so everyone would understand how good this league really is."
"You can't get any better than 2-0 after two games. It was good to get a road win. It was good to beat a good team at home. We've got to go back on the road now and every road game out there will be tough. I really don't think we have a road game in the Big East that is anything that you can lock down in the win column."
