Recap | Final Stats | Notes
Louisville junior guard Helen Johnson
On career high: "I was just focused on penetration, three-point shots, just driving to the basket, and pitching it up thru. I just focused on playing my game and it felt good."
Louisville junior forward Missy Taylor
"We had a good halftime talk. I guess we were lackadaisical with everything in the first half. It was good to beat the Hoosiers. The funny thing is, I played with a couple of those girls in AAU ball so, yeah, definitely, it was good to beat the Hoosiers."
On Bouncing back after a loss: "We had a lot of stuff to prove. We were pretty down after the loss to Western Kentucky. We have a lot of potential. It's just a matter of being able to play as a team and putting everything together. I think people are really going to be surprised when things start falling into place."
Louisville Head Coach Tom Collen
"Wins are always good. One positive was we got ourselves into a game that was very competitive deep into the second half. We had enough confidence and poise to step up and make enough plays to pull away and beat a pretty formidable opponent. I think Indiana will do well in the Big Ten this year."
"Another positive was we got Helen Johnson out there and on track. We need to get her out there and get her going. She plays well in transition and we were able to let her freelance a little bit. We have to close out and do a better job. We need to be a little more patient offensively against the zone, we know we have to work harder against the zone."
"We are not as good as we need to be. This team is clearly a work in progress. We have a lot of good returning players. We have some new pieces and we need to figure out how those pieces fit. Putting the pieces together is not easy. Helen Johnson and Angel McCoughtry are good examples. Those kids can really impact us and make a difference."
Indiana senior guard Cyndi Valentin
"We got fatigued and it took us out of our offense. We needed to focus on executing and scoring, taking care of the ball."
Indiana Head Coach Sharon Versyp
"We hit a wall fatigue wise. We did not execute well. I think when we execute we do very well."
(On Johnson) "Helen Johnson wasn't a surprise. We tried to force them to shoot the outside shot because their post players are so solid. We tried to play zone to take that away. Louisville is going to be one of the top 25 teams."
