LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville men's and women's cross country head coach Ron Mann has released the Cardinals' 2004 schedule. The Cards will open the fall campaign on Sept. 3 at the Woodford Trials in Versailles, Ky., the first event under the leadership of Mann who was introduced as coach by U of L officials at a July 2 press conference.
The 2004 U of L schedule is highlighted by a pair of hometown events in the city of Louisville, including the Cardinals' own 4th Annual Cardinal Classic on Saturday, Oct. 9 at the U of L Shelby Campus. The Cardinals will also compete at the Greater Louisville Classic hosted by the Greater Louisville Sports Commission at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park on Sept. 25.
"We're really excited to be involved with two meets here in the city of Louisville," said Mann, who arrived at U of L after a highly successful tenure at Northern Arizona University. "It's great for our athletes to have a couple of chances to compete at home, and it's also great for our program because it gives our coaching staff two more opportunities to meet with all of the great people in the Louisville running community."
The Cardinals will also compete at the Commodore Classic on Sept. 11 in Nashville, Tenn., the Pre-Nationals meet on Oct. 16 in Terre Haute, Ind., and the Conference USA Championships hosted by DePaul University on Oct. 30 in Chicago, Ill. The NCAA Southeast Regionals are set for Nov. 13 in Greenville, S.C., while the NCAA Championships are scheduled for Nov. 24 in Terre Haute, Ind.
"I think this is a very fair schedule, and we feel like it should really help prepare us for all of the championship meets at the end of the year," Mann said. "I'm excited about the upcoming year and ready to get started."
