
Women's Basketball Wins Fifth Straight

New Orleans, La. - The University of Louisville women's basketball team won its fifth game in a row with a narrow 48-47 win over Tulane in Fogelman Arena on Friday evening. Freshman Jazz Covington led the Cardinals with her eight double-double of the season. Covington was the only Cardinal to score double-figures with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Sara Nord was the second leading scorer with eight points. Lakethia Hampton led the Green Wave with 12 points.
Louisville started the second half with a 10-3 run in the first five minutes. Back-to-back baskets by Katie Olson put the Cards up 41-30 at the 12:30 mark. Tulane then went on a 9-0 run to cut the lead to 41-39 with just over five minutes remaining.
Louisville then went on a 7-0 run with Covington scoring the final five points of the run to take a 48-39 lead with just over three minutes remaining. Tulane answered with a 5-0 run of their own, cutting the Cardinal lead to 48-44 with just over a minute to play. The Green Wave's Kelly Nadeau hit a three-pointer at the buzzer but it was not enough as the Cardinals escaped with a 48-47 win.
The Cardinals built at 22-15 lead that was when Covington was called for her second foul and had to take a seat. She left the floor with 12 points and five rebounds. Tulane took advantage of her absence and went on a 6-3 run. The Cardinals finished the half with a 25-21 lead.
The Cardinals will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss. to take on Southern Miss at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 15.
