
Louisville Falls To Florida State, 69-54

Florida State (12-0) used a 12-2 run in the final six minutes of the game to defeat the Louisville Cardinals (8-4) 69-54 in the first round of the Lady Griz Holiday Classic on Tuesday evening. Jazz Covington led the Cardinals with 21 points and nine rebounds while Ganiyat Adeduntan led the Seminoles with 22 points.
After a hot shooting first half, the Cardinals were held without a field goal in the final six minutes before Covington scored the final two points from the line. Covington scored 13 of her 21 points in the second half, keeping the Cardinals in the game.
Florida State used an early 6-0 run with 14 minutes remaining to pull ahead of the Cardinals 45-40. Louisville stayed close, cutting the lead to 54-52 with 6:11 remaining in the game. But Florida State used the 12-2 run to close out the game.
Louisville finished the second half shooting just 33.3 percent and going 0 for 6 from behind the three-point line. Florida State shot 53.6 percent in the half and 25 percent from behind the three-point line. The Cardinals shot a season low 38.5 percent from the free throw line. The Seminoles outrebounded the Cardinals 41-32.
The first half saw six leads before Katie Olson scored on a jumper with two seconds remaining to give the Cardinals a 31-29 lead at the half. Louisville finished the first half shooting 50 percent from the field and from the three-point line. Florida State finished the half shooting 43.3 percent and 16.7 percent from behind the arc.
The Cardinals will face the loser of the Montana/Maine game at 7:00 p.m. tomorrow evening.
