
Louisville Gets Past Maine, 69-57

The University of Louisville women's basketball team defeated Maine 69-57 in the consolation game of the Lady Griz Holiday Classic on Wednesday evening in Dahlberg Arena. Four Cardinals scored in double figures with Jazz Covington leading the way with 19 points. Katie Olson led the Cardinals on the boards with eight rebounds. Missy Traversi led Maine with 29 points.
The Cardinals led the whole game but at the 9:18 mark in the second half, Maine cut the lead to 49-48. The Cardinals then used a 6-0 run to go up 55-48 with just over seven minutes remaining, holding off a Maine comeback.
The Cardinals finished the game shooting 52 percent from the field and 30.8 percent from behind the three-point line. After a season low shooting performance last night, the Cardinals finished shooting 86.7 percent from the line. Maine finished the game shooting 39.6 percent from the field and 53.3 percent from behind the arc. Louisville held a 32-27 rebounding edge over Maine.
The first half was tied twice before the Cardinals used a 12-0 run to go up 35-24. Louisville held Maine without a field goal for six minutes, shooting 53.8 percent in the half. The Cardinals finished the half with a 36-26 lead.
Louisville will be back in action on Jan. 6 as they travel to Tampa, Fla. to take on South Florida in the league opener at 7:00 p.m.
